Job Description
The Home Builders Association of Fargo-Moorhead is looking for a public affairs intern. This person helps develop and implement the advocacy program of the Association which represents nearly 900 businesses in the homebuilding industry in the Fargo-Moorhead and surrounding area. Salary will be at minimum wage or more, depending on experience. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting the HBA of F-M’s CEO and communications coordinator with:
  • Monitoring local, state and federal legislation affecting the home building industry.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with policy makers in the region and establishing alliances with related organizations.
  • Working with a committee to administer the Association’s advocacy program.
  • Helping to coordinate media and public outreach efforts.
  • Keeping members informed of all regulatory changes affecting their business.
  • Assist in coordinating Candidate Forums, legislative socials, hosting government officials at Member Meetings, and PAC-related meetings and events.
  • Assist HBA and North Dakota Association of Builders in preparing for the North Dakota 2019 Legislative Session.
  • Assist in setting up meetings with elected officials and candidates running for office.
  • Assist in writing calls to action and relevant materials to advocacy work.
 The qualified individual must:
  • Enjoy challenges and be a self-starter.
  • Commit 10‐20 hours per week, lasting through fall term (with possibility of extending through spring term).
  • Have ability to communicate effectively with others both verbally and in writing.
  • Have ability to write reports, business correspondence, press releases, informational articles and promotional materials.
  • Be proficient using Microsoft Office.
  • Have ability to pay attention to detail and to meet deadlines.
  • Possess organizational skills and be able to multi‐task.
  • Have ability to work effectively with a diverse group of individuals and to communicate regularly with supervisor and other staff about work‐related issues.
  • Be capable of reporting to work on time prepared to perform duties of the position.
  • Have a positive attitude and the ability to network and build relationships with policy makers.
  • Preferably be a student with junior or senior status pursuing a  bachelor’s degree in political science, communications, marketing or a related discipline from an accredited college.
